Dr. Yanyu Chen is an assistant professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Louisville since August 1, 2018. Prior to this appointment, he was a postdoctoral fellow in the Transportation and Hydrogen Systems Center at National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL). He earned a Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Stony Brook University, an M.S. degree in Structural Engineering from Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, and a B.E. degree in Civil Engineering from Wuhan University in China. He also worked as a Structural Analysis Engineer at China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation for about two years. Dr. Chen’s teaching interests include mechanics of materials, mechanics of composites, finite element analysis, and design for manufacturing. His research interests include lightweight mechanical metamaterials, bioinspired composites, phononic metamaterials, 3D lithium-ion battery architectures, and additive manufacturing.
